This page contains information about the new Reading Greek group on the GreekStudy list. We will be going through the last adapted sections (Kata Neaira) of the JATC's Reading Greek course (we'll just be using it as a reading text and won't be doing the exercises together). The idea is to have a couple of very short readings every week (that can be done in something like 10 minutes!) to keep our Greek somewhat fresh in our minds, without being a time burden. I am very happy to tweak the assignment frequency and length as we go along, but let’s start with two assignments per week of appoximately 20-25 words. This may be too little, but I’d rather start this way and work up if needs be. The first Assignment will be September 10th.
Text
Reading Greek: Text 1st Edition (Cambridge University Press, 1978; 978-0521219761).
Reading Greek: Text and Vocabulary, 2nd Edition (Cambridge University Press 2007, 978-0521698511).
I can also send participants a few pages of the scanned text and vocabularies to get them started while they're obtaining the book (just email me).
Assignments
In keeping with our trial of 20-25 words per assignment, here is the first two:
Monday September 10, lines 13 -15: κελεύοντος τοῦ κήρυκος ἥκουσιν οἱ δικασταὶ εἰς τὸ δικαστήροιν. καὶ ἀλλον ὡς ὁρῶσιν ἥκοντα, εὐθὺς ἀσπάζονται, λαβόμενοι τῆς χειρός.
Wed. September 12 , lines 15-17: ἐπεὶ δὲ ἥδουσιν ὁ κωμίας καὶ Εὐργίδης εἰς τὸ δικαστήριον - οὗ μέλλουσι δικάσειν γραφήν τινα περὶ Νεαίρας - ἀσπάζεται ὁ ἕτερος τὸν ἕτερον.
